  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Laigong 賚功 뇌공 An academician.(學士) (1650)
Lasebani 拉色巴你 납색파니 He was defeated and arrested in Akju(岳州). It was documented in 1678. (1678)
Li Yastemur 李也失帖木兒 이야실첩목아 A Chinese who was captured and later released to 遼東 with some presents. (1424)
Lijiahua 李家化 이가화 1. →Ni Gahua, 2. an escaped Chinese man who was captured by the governor of 평안도
Liu Aita 劉愛塔 유애탑 He is a Chinese and a general of 金 who secretly informed Joseon about the plans of 金. (1626)
Liuxingzuo 劉興祚 유흥조 Early 17C, an officer of Jurchen Jin from Han dynasty. He suggested ways to reconcile with Qing and Joseon. (1627-1630)
Loki 彔只 녹지 Early 17C, a Qing envoy who came to Joseon (1633)
