  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Losi 勞什 노십 A retainer of the king regent along with Ekcin, Ubai, Subai, 鉢羅會, he lost his governmental job after being suspect of betrayal(1651)
Ma Adau 馬阿多右 마아다우 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) from 建州衛 whose boss is controversial. Some thought he was under the command of Dong Toro; others thought An envoy of Dong Bohato. (1472-1484)

Mabinja 馬邊者 마변자 A Chieftain(酋長) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in Omhoi. The uncle of MAgumpa. The brother of the grandfather of Berida, Modaci, Adangga
Maborangga 馬甫郞介 마보랑개 A vice director(副司正) of Ya-in(野人)
Mabotai 馬甫太 마보태 A naturalized person from 會寧 who came to 서울 on his own accord and thus was caught in trouble. (1606)
Macenri 馬千里 마천리 A rectifier(司直) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in Omhoi. The son of Magimparo. The nephew of MAgumpa. The brother of Darongga, Arda
