  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Malen 末乙彦 말을언 Mid 15C, an 兀良哈) who came into Joseon with his soldiers and captured Darangga. Then he moved to 遼東. (1466)
Malgen 末乙巾 말을건 1. a man of Joseon(朝鮮)(1416) 2. a Ya-in(野人) who was a thief (1433)
Malingge 末令巨 말령거 A battalion commander(千戶) of Odoli(斡朶里) who presented local products to the king. (1431)
Malo 末老 말로 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 阿赤郞耳. The family of Gim Doron (1454)
Malo 末乙老 말을로 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江外愁州. (1455)
Malongga 末弄哈 말롱합 Mid 15C, an 兀良哈 who lived in 吾治安. (1462)
Malosi 末老時 말로시 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Oranagkai who lived in Achiranggwi(阿赤郞貴)(1454)
