  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Hitan Guyunu 奚灘古玉奴 해탄고옥노 a Ya-in(野人) who was naturalized while King Taejo was in throne (1395)
Hitan Harangkai 奚灘訶郞哈 해탄가랑합 A Jurchen subordinate of 李成桂. (1395)
Hitan Sele 奚灘薛列 해탄설렬 He was among the Ya-ins who was naturalized(1395).
Hitan Tasa 奚灘塔斯 해탄탑사 A battalion commander of 實眼春猛安.(1395)
Hiungguda 凶仇大 흉구대 →Hiunggurda
Hiunggurda 胸仇乙大 흉구을대 15C, a commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 阿赤郞耳. (1440-1455)
Ho Batu 胡拔都 호발도 Late 14C, a head of 女眞 who raided 高麗 several times but being driven back by 李成桂.
Hoa 浩阿 호아 Early 17C, 中樞 who conveyed what 崔德春 said. (1603)
