  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Hosingga 好時應我 호시응아 A 千戶 of Orangkai(兀良哈), who visited the Joseon court and paid a tribute of local products. (1423)
Hosira 好時羅 호시라 A 百戶 of a Jurchen(女眞) (1405)
Hosiro 好時老 호시로 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 尼麻退. The son of Egedu. The nephew of Husige. (1455)
Hosita 忽失塔 홀실탑 1. a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 慮包. 2. a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in 斜地.
Hositaha 忽失塔阿下 홀실탑아하 Mid 15C, a 指揮僉事 of 兀良哈 who presented local products. He was appointed as 副萬戶. (1454)
Hositemu 忽失帖木 홀실첩목 He served as an assistant of commander(指揮僉事) in 兀的河衛 in the middle of the 15C(1439)
