  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Huancuga 歡出哈 환출합 A Ya-in(野人) of 兀里奚山衛 who sent Dasu, a 指揮, to have an audience with the king. (1439)
Huang Bugai 黃不改 황불개 The brother-in-law of 黃顯. (1406-1407)
Huang Ginor 黃起奴兒 황기노아 A commander of the Orangkai(吾郞哈) tribe, was sent Ni Manju visited the Joseon court and paid a tribute of local products. (1435)
Huang Najang 黃羅將 황라장 An envoy from Ni Darhan who was a chieftain of 建州中衛. He received presents from the king. (1485)
Huang Sampau 黃三波右 황삼파우 Late 15C, Ni Darhan's son-in-law who was bestowed goods by the king. (1486)
