  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Henggasu 許應家愁 허응가수 Mid 15C, a director(司正) of Nimaca Udige(cf. Nimaca兀狄哈) who offered local products (1463)
Heringge 虛里應哈 허리응합 Early 15C, a 百戶 of Udige(兀狄哈) who presented local products and being bestowed goods by the king. (1423)
Hersu 虛乙愁 허을수 A Ya-in who lived in the middle of the 15C(1460)
Hesieri 黑舍里氏 흑사리씨 The daughter of Gabula who served as a grand minister of the imperial household Department(內大臣). She bacame an empress later(1665). Qing Emperor 康熙's 皇后 (1674)
Hife 皮牌 피패 He was a vassal of Qing who is one of the editors of annals of Qing dynasty.(1589-1652)
Hiodo 孝道 효도 A naturalized Ya-in(野人) woman (1398)
Hiojeng 孝貞 효정 Early 17C, Botu's grandfather.(1605)
