  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Gayangga 金哥羊介 김가양개 Mid 15C, A senior military protector(上護軍) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 何多山. The brother of Gim Sigu, Gim Gasangga. The uncle of Gim Garbungga, Jujingga. He presented local products to the king. (1455)
Gim Gecung 金巨忠 김거충 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who lived in Joseon. Gim Sacung's older brother. (1461)
Gim Geda 金巨大 김거대 There is not enough information about him(1523,1524). (1523-1524)
Gim Geida 金巨伊代 김거이대 15C, a Jurchen(女眞) who was naturalized and volunteered to be a king's guard (1425-1426)
Gim Genggune 金巨應仇乃 김거응구내 A 中樞 of Orangkai who lived in 尙家麻波. (1479-1592)
