  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Ara 金阿剌 김아라 A Ya-in who lived in 16C. He served as a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) around Yachun(也春)(1457)
Gim Aradu 金阿羅豆 김아라두 a Ya-in(野人) a vice director(副司正) who lived under 件加退 castle in the mid 15C. Nasongga's father
Gim Araga 金阿羅哈 김아라합 A 上護軍 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who was appointed as a 都萬戶. (1459) He dedicated local products(1461,1462,1477), and was appointed as a 中樞 of Orangkai(1472)
Gim Arangga 金阿郞哈 김아랑합 A 大護軍 of Ya-in(野人)s who was summoned by the King. (1457)
Gim Arga 金阿乙加 김아을가 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Kolkan Udige(骨看兀狄哈) who lived around Ejimi(於知未). (1457)
