  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Guhuari 金仇火里 김구화리 A director(司正) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 草串. The younger brother of Gim Orcangga. (1455)
Gim Hada 金合多 김합다 He ia Ya-in who lived in Hoiryeng(會寧) in early 16C(1523)
Gim Hago 金下古 김하고 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in the opposite site of Mucang (1523)
Gim Hali 金下乙里 김하을리 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) who lived in Hunchun(訓春) (1465)
Gim Hamda 金含大 김함대 Mid 15C, A rectifier(司直) of a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in Aramodan. The elder brother of Iriu (1455)
Gim Haraga 金河羅哈 김하라합 A 都萬戶 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who dedicated local products. (1468)
