  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Doron 金都乙溫 김도을온 He was a 都萬戶 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 阿赤郞耳. He is the son of Ari and the foster uncle of Gim Darongga. (1423-1456)
Gim Dunanda 金豆難代 김두난대 A grand military protector(大護軍) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 中東良. The son of 故brigade commander(萬戶) Gim Oganju
Gim Ehene 金於虛乃 김어허내 A military protector(護軍) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 草串. The father of Naona. The elder brother of Gim Dicengge. The nephew of Gim Orcangga (1455)
Gim Eheri 金於虛里 김어허리 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who made contributions when subjugating Northern area. He was appointed as a director(司正). (1460)
Gim Erongga 金於弄介 김어롱개 A Ya-in(野人) escapee (1482)
Gim Gadal 金加達 김가달 A person who was arrested in Sesura(西水羅)(1552).
Gim Gagaa 金加加阿 김가가아 As a nomad living in 於知未, he was promoted to 萬戶 because of a success at ?). (1460-1465)
