  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gibangga 其方可 기방가 A Hulun who was the father of Uringga(Uri應可) and served as commander(指揮) at Wanliha Post(阮里河衛). (1439)
Gibge 其邑居 기읍거 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who wanted to be naturalized
Gida 奇大 기대 Late 15C, an Orangkai(兀良哈) 中樞 who had an audience with the king
Gidai 只多伊 지다이 Early 16C, a Ya-in(野人) general who lived in 所安 (1525)
Gidangga 其堂可 기당가 A rectifier(司直) of Nimaca Udige.
Gidangga 吉塘哥 길당가 A 指揮 who was sent by Godola. He presented local products to the king. (1441)
Gidangga 吉堂可 길당가 A 護軍 of Hulun Udige(Hulun兀狄哈) who presented local products to the king. (1490)
Gienghacang 慶河昌 경하창 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in 極東. Joseon dispatched 1,000 수군s and captured him upon 청's advice that he, with his sons 其羅羅只 and Duna, betrayed 청, occupied 熊島 and was refusing to pay tributes. (1639)
