  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dong Podangga 童蒲堂介 동포당개 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in Gemchenri(檢天里). The cousin of Dong Cang. The sun-in-law of MaDarongga. He received clothes etc. (1482-1483)
Dong Punggi 童風其 동풍기 A brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in Dongrangbuk(東良北). (1453)
Dong Punggi 童豐只 동풍지 A 指揮 of Odoli who dedicated local products. (1439)
Dong Punggi 童風只 동풍지 1. A 指揮 of 建州衛 who dedicated local products. (1413) 2. An Odoli who asked for a favor for his old mother and was given 100-kwons of paper. (1418) 3. A 指揮 and 都萬戶 of Odoli who dedicated local products. (1442)
Dong Sahada 童沙何多 동사하다 A principal official(正官), who was granted 匹段襦帖裏(a gift) from king.(1483)
Dong Sahadi 童沙下知 동사하지 A rectifier(司直) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 下Borha. (1455)
