  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dong Masa 童莫舍 동막사 He was appointed to a vice director(副司正)(1454), It may that an Odoli. (1454)
Dong Mengge 童末應巨 동말응거 An Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 下多家舍. The brother of Modao, 童Temu. The son of Dong Gasipa.(1455)
Dong Menggegtemur 童猛哥帖木兒 동맹가첩목아 A chieftain of Odoli(斡朶里) in 建州左衛. He received the position of 建州衛都督첨사 from the Ming. He was killed by Udige Yangmodaol with his son (1395-1433) 권두 at 1433.
Dong Modaoci 童毛多吾赤 동모다오치 A military protector(護軍) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 吾弄草. He is the son of Yaota, the younger brother of Ahari and the father of Yacadol. He was given clothes, gat, horses, and slaves, and was granted permission to get married. (1441-1455)
Dong Modi 童毛知 동모지 He is one of the 戶頭s who told that they wanted to stay in Joseon for their lifetime, when Dong Fanca left his land. (1441)
Dong Modiri 童毛知里 동모지리 A military protector(護軍) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 上東良. The cousin of Dong Ganggo, Dong Ehecu's son. a brother of Niudu and Songgoro.
Dong Mojin 童毛珍 동모진 A 指揮 of Odoli who dedicated local products. (1440)
Dong Mojohoi 童毛照會 동모조회 He belonged to the same group with Ni Ningguci, a Ya-in(野人). (1528)
Dong Monriu 童毛隱流 동모은류 A 次將 of Siorgaci(Siorgaci=Siorgaci)(1596)
Dong Munaiya 童無乃也 동무내야 Mid 15C, a Jurchen 副司正 who presented local products. (1455)
