  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dong Nasongga 童羅松介 동라송개 A 中樞院副使 of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 富居縣. He was naturalized.
Dong Ni 童理 동리 He was naturalized and then appointed to a vice director(副司正), his name 理 was granted by the king(1437-1438). His former name was Dong Duribuka. (1437-1438)
Dong Niucing 童劉稱 동류칭 A Ya-in(野人)千戶 who heartily guided the fugitives including Dong Cang to capture them. (1440)
Dong Niudu 童劉豆 동류두 A military protector(護軍) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in Sangdongrang. The cousin of Dong Ganggo
Dong No 童老 동로 Late 15C, an Orangkai(兀良哈) 中樞who informed the plot of a Ya-in(野人)s to sack Joseon. He lived in 永安道.
Dong Nodong 童老同 동로동 He served as a 裨將僉知 in 左衛.(1496)
Dong Nogo 童奴高 동노고 A Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛. (1452)
Dong Noja 童老者 동로자 A Ya-in(野人) who planned to sack downstream areas. (1513)
Dong Nonggi 童籠只 동롱지 He lived in 富寧 and later escaped to 東良北 with his family because of the heavy duty. (1482)
Dong Noodong 童老吾銅 동로오동 A Ya-in(1528)
