  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dong Gagali 童可可呂 동가가려 A ya-in who was captured and sent to exiled in 1524(1524-1528).
Dong Gang 童綱 동강 A Ya-in(野人) imprisoned in 全州 and became naturalized. (1526)
Dong Ganggo 童干古 동간고 A senior military protector(上護軍) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 上東良. He was naturalized to Joseon. The cousin of Dong Modiri, Dong Songgoro, Dong Niudu.
Dong Ganggori 童干古里 동간고리 He was naturalized in early 15C(1423-1442).
Dong Gangguri 童姜求里 동강구리 An area chieftain(都酋長) in 溫火衛. (1596)
Dong Gaoha 童家吾下 동가오하 Early 15C, an 斡朶里 指揮 who was under the control of Dong Menggegtemur. He presented local products and being bestowed goods and a public office by the king. (1423-1425)
Dong Garaungsi 童加羅雄時 동가라웅시 He is the person that Dong Toro-the son of Dong Cang who served as commissioner-in-chief(都督) in 右衛 sent him(1472)
Dong Gasipa 童哥時波 동가시파 A brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 下多家舍. The father of Modao, Dong Mengge, 童Temu. (1433-1455)
Dong Gece 童巨處 동거처 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who asked to live in Joseon during a famine in China (1483-1484)
Dong Geu 童巨右 동거우 1. A son-in-law of Ni Darhan. (1484) 2. →Dong Geudong? (1483-1485)
