  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dong Dana 童大乃 동대내 The head of Ya-in who defected for generations. He lived in Bakiripa(慱易梨坡)
Dong Dasiga 童多時哈 동다시합 A Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛. (1529)
Dong Dodaga 童都答哈 동도답합 Late 15C, 兀良哈 大護軍 who presented local products. (1488)
Dong Dondo 童敦道 동돈도 A brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 吾弄草
Dong Dorci 童都乙赤 동도을치 A Ya-in(野人) who was naturalized. He is the father of 童介叱同 and 童周南. (1474)
Dong Doribuha 童都里夫何 동도리부하 A Ya-in(野人) under control of 李Manju. He requested to volunteer as the guard but was rejected. (1435)
Dong Doro 童道老 동도로 Early 15C, an Odoli(斡朶里) battalion commander who offered local products (1428)
