  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dong Boiho 童甫伊浩 동보이호 Early 15C, a 建州衛 Ya-in(野人) who captured a Korean man as a revenge for the death of Dong Tasiga. (1533)
Dong Bojingga 童甫澄可 동보징가 The servant of Gositaha, a Ya-in(野人) . He wanted to be naturalized. (1524)
Dong Boro 童甫老 동보로 Early 15C, an Odoli(斡朶里) battalion commander(斡朶里千戶) who had an audience with the king and bestowed goods. Dong Fanca's son (1424-1440)
Dong Bota 童孛塔 동패탑 A 千戶 of the 婆猪江 area who threatened Joseon that he would rob and kidnap people living along the river if Joseon does not return the fugitives. (1433)
