  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dong Cengju 童淸周 동청주 Mid 15C, an 斡朶里 who naturalized in his early days and took up 中樞. He is the son of Dong Sorotemur. He is the older brother of Dong Aimangga and Dongcengli.
Dong Cingtong 童稱統 동칭통 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in 愁所好. He was appointed as a 副萬戶. (1459)
Dong Cinjaga 童親自哈 동친자합 Late 16C, a Ya-in(野人) who offered a place to stay to a government official of Joseon when the official visitied Nurhaci to figure out the state of Orangkai.(1596)
Dong Cungya 童充也 동충야 the younger brother of Dong Cang(1. Dong Cang 2. Cungsang). He became a cheiftain of Dong Damaci in the middle of the 15C. (1464-1475)
Dong Dabangga 童多方可 동다방가 A Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛. (1541)
Dong Daca 童答察 동답찰 A 指揮 of 만주 people who dedicated local products and requested to allow his people to leave 渾河 and move to 아목하. (1439)
Dong Dacar 童答察兒 동답찰아 An Odoli(斡朶里), a commander sent by the Fancha(Dong Fanca) (1439)
Dong Dada 童多大 동다대 15C, a man who hid fled Joseon people (1440)
Dong Daicangga 童大彰可 동대창가 The son of Dong Toro (1487)
Dong Daigi 童大吉 동대길 A Ya-in who reported to 하세국 about situation of Jurchen (1595)
