  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Darangga 多郞哈 다랑합 A man who lived in 東良. He was arrested by Abga and Malen of Orangkai(兀良哈) and their 400 soldiers due to his frequent refusal of returning his captives from 吉州 and 富寧 and his threaten of robbery. (1463,1466)

Darangga 多浪哈 다랑합 He is one of the party of Ipa, who is a 모련위 Orangkai(毛憐衛兀良哈) under control of 1. Dong Cang 2. Cungsang, and 500 mounted soldiers. They were crossing 吾乙面江 to the west, and 다랑합 answered the question of 이두리 about where they were heading to. (1466)
Darangga 多良哈 다량합 1) An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 中東良. (1464,1466,1469) 2) A 모련위 Orangkai(毛憐衛兀良哈) who invaded 遼東 with his soldiers and captivated people and livestock, approximately 1,000 in total. (1466)
Daraon 大剌溫 대라온 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in a faraway spot (1530)
Darbi 多乙非 다을비 1. a commander(指揮) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Belin. 2. a brigade commander(萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 下訓春. The father of Ordomu
Darbinga 達賓介 달빈개 A battalion commander(千戶) of Kolkan Udige (1406-1412)
