  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Dalhan 達兒漢 달아한 Late 15C, a 建州衛) Ya-in(野人) who captured and enslaved 劉正) and 劉小厮). (1482)
Dalmaci 達乙麻赤 달을마치 An Udige /// An Udige(兀狄哈) who committed robbery and murder at 현성 玄城地面. (1407)
Dalohuaga 達魯花哈 달로화합 A 大護軍 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who presented local products to the king. (1479)
Dalongga 斷兒籠哈 단아롱합 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who lived near 鮮河江 river. He plotted to raid 閭延 but Yaosi successfully persuaded him to stop. (1439)
Damarca 多末且 다말차 This refers to 無難達魯花赤 Damarca. He was appointed as a 司直 when the posts were established for 元子. (1404)
Damoci 多毛赤 다모치 Mid 15C, an 斡朶里 who had an audience with the king and presented local products. (1438)
Damparo 談波老 담파로 A battalion commander(千戶) of 建州衛. (1405)
Damparo 多音波老 다음파로 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江外愁州
Dana 大乃 대내 1. →Usumcidana 2. →Dong Dana
