  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Coi Ebuge 崔於夫哈 최어부합 A 千戶 of Odoli(斡朶里) who dedicated local products. He volunteered to join the guard force and was given clothes, horses, a house, servants and other goods and got married as a reward. (1411-1431)
Coi Gositemur 崔古時帖木兒 최고시첩목아 An Orangkai(兀良哈) (1411)
Coi Gutemur 崔仇帖木兒 최구첩목아 A military protector(護軍) of Odoli(斡朶里). (1406)
Coi Harbuka 崔哈兒不花 최합아불화 A Ya-in under 豆門Boro's jurisdiction. (1410)

Coi Maingjung 崔孟中 최맹중 Late 15C, a naturalized Ya-in(野人) who was bestowed goods by the king for his contribution. (1483)
Coi Modaho 崔毛多好 최모다호 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who made a contribution in the battle with 謙進兀狄哈. He was naturalized and being bestowed clothes. a tranlator(通事) of Jurchen(女眞) . (1424)
Coi Nohorcui 崔老好乙取 최로호을취 Early 15C, an 斡朶里 who presented local products and was bestowed goods by the king. He got settled in Joseon after marrying a Joseon woman. He originally lived in 巨陽城.(1430-1433)
Coi Norengci 崔奴乙應赤 최노을응치 A Jurchen(女眞) Ya-in(野人) from 斡木河 who brought the 書契 of Guntu to ask for and was granted permission to take up a public office. (1433)
Coi Saan 崔沙安 최사안 Early 15C, a 指揮 of 斡朶里(1431)
