  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Cada 車多 차다 His full name is Wang Cada, who was a commander(指揮) lived in 建州衛. He later served as a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) in 本處 in the middle 15C(1459)
Cadaga 扎大哈 찰대합 A man who lived in 阿赤郞貴. (1461)
Cahansilabuka 察罕失剌不花 찰한실랄불화 Early 15C, a lineage group that Gicuisiga was in control. (1407-1415)
Cahantemur 察罕帖木 찰한첩목 Mid 14C, a general of Yuan Dynasty who died for the betrayal of a surrendered enemy in the midst he was on a conquest of 紅巾軍. His full name was Cahantemur兒. (1403)
Cahar Han 車屹汗 차흘한 Mid 17C, the Mongolian king Abunai who was captured for ten years in 瀋陽. As his son Burni became the king, the son saved him coming with his soldiers. (1675)
Cahara 車河里 차하리 An envoy of 金 in the early 17C. (1632)
Cahara 乂哈喇 차합라 An ambassador who was sent by Inggūldai(龍骨大)
Cahua 車和 거화 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who killed many people of Joseon. He plundered the area of 茂寧 as a revenge for his mother and brothers who got killed in Joseon. Aha's son. (1471)
Caingge 車仁巨 차인거 A Ya-in(野人) (1482-1483)
Cainggga 車仍哥 차잉가 A Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛. (1482)
