  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Cihari 赤下里 치하리 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) a battalion commander(野人千戶) who offered local products. (1436)
Cingbau 稱朴右 칭박우 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) 雇工 who lived in 遼東. He ran away from Ni Gonaga. (1465)
Cingdu 稱豆 칭두 Mid 15C, an Orangkai a brigade commander-in-chief(兀良哈都萬戶) who lived in 下多家舍. He offered local products (1463)
Cingya 稱也 칭야 Early 17C, an Orangkai who fought for Nurhaci against Yehe(與許).
Ciraoi 赤剌外 치라외 He was the host who offered a temporary dwelling to Mangsan's company. (1502)
Cirau 赤羅右 치라우 Late 15C, an 斡朶里 who presented local products. (1484)
Cirda 赤乙多 치을다 A commander(指揮) who was sent by Gariboha who was a commander(指揮) of Hulun Udige of 察河衛. He presented local products to king 世宗.(1440)
Citaiboha 赤太甫下 치태보하 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in 阿赤郞貴. He commited robberies but regretted it and returned the stolen goods. (1423)
