  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Singne 興能 흥능 17C, a Qing envoy. A minister of Works(工部尙書). He is mentioned 星訥(Singne) in the annal of Qing dynasty. (1645)
Siorgaci 小兒哈赤 소아합치 He is a Ya-in(野人) of 建州. He is the younger brother of Nurhaci. He also raided Joseon repeatedly. Dong Daji's cousin. Bujantai's father-in-law. (1564-1611)
Siosa 時吾沙 시오사 An Odoli who served as a battalion commander(千戶) and presented local products to the king in early of the 15C(1425)
Siotongga 時吾通哈 시오통합 An Udige who volunteered to be a 侍衛 in Seoul. (1424)
Sipa 十八 십팔 He was a 指揮 who Husigu sent to present to the king(1439)
Siraju 時羅主 시라주 Mid 15C, a 골간 骨看亐知介 who had an audience with the king and presented local products (1441)
Siramo 時羅毛 시라모 A commander(指揮) of 亦迷河衛
Sirangga 時郞哥 시랑가 Mid 15C, A 호군 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who surrendered and asked to return 卜羅孫) and Horaso). He lived in Gimudu. Nang Garingga)'s son, Nang Borhan)'s grandson. The grandson of Nang Borhan). (1459-1460)
