  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Sim Ehe 沈於虛 심어허 A Ya-in(野人) of 建州衛 who reorganized his troops and horses for sacking. (1543)
Sim Ehero 沈於虛老 심어허로 An Orangkai from 婆猪江 who lived in early 15C(1426)
Sim Erge 沈於乙巨 심어을거 A Ya-in, who complained to Joseon by sending letter for his sons were captured. (1498)
Sim Erongga 沈於弄可 심어롱가 A Ya-in(野人) who was allowed to live at the Joseon side of 鴨綠江. (1451)
Sim Gamga 沈家音哈 심가음합 Late 15C, a 都指揮 of 建州衛 who reported Ya-in(野人)s' movement to plunder villages in Joseon. (1494)
Sim Hangsiga 沈項時哈 심항시합 He is one of the eight men about whom Naha made a report. Naha reported that the eight men and Sim Busora of 建州 were commiting robbery. (1487,1499)
Sim Huangsiga 沈黃時哈 심황시합 A man who committed robbery with Wang Sanciha, a chieftain(酋長) of 岐州衛. (1525)
Sim Irda 沈日多 심일다 A Ya-in from 建州衛(1491)
Sim Irida 沈伊里大 심이리대 →Sim Irida
Sim Irida 沈伊里多 심이리다 A commander(指揮) who was sent by Ni Manju as a envoy. He presented local products to the king. He was later promoted to a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) in late 15C at that time of king Seijo(世祖). (1458)
