  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Beringge 伐伊應可 벌이응가 A director(司正) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江外愁州. The son of Gim Guenro. He was killed by an arrow. (1447-1466)
Beringge 伐麟巨 벌린거 A director(司正) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in outside of Dongryanggang. The son of Gim Guenro. The brother of araga, Magiro, Duen, Abu (1455)

Bersong 伐宋 벌송 Mid 15C, Hulun a commander who offered local products (1443)
Bersu 伐乙愁 벌을수 A battalion commander(千戶)(1431),it seems an Odoli who lived in 餘下 while coming and going to 巨陽城 handled a chinese man who was trading with him. (1431)
Berya 伐也 벌야 1. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江內 Suju.(1455) 2. a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 下訓春. The son of JAraro(1455)
Beryangge 伐陽巨 벌양거 An Orangkai(兀良哈). The younger brother of Yasda (1462)
Biga 非介 비개 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 時建. he might be same person as the son of Durmengge . The nephew of Siada(舍大)
