  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Bak Danyongga 朴丹用可 박단용가 A director(司正) of a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in Yeori. The younger brother of Mohali. The elder brother of Durongga, Ayangga (1455)
Bak Danyongga 朴丹容阿 박단용아 Jurchen 中樞 who lived near 慶興. (1491)
Bak Darongga 朴多弄哈 박다롱합 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who sneaked in 會寧. He had plundered villages in 閭延, so his entry was doubted as a spying before plundering; however he was freed. Later he submitted. (1437)
Bak Dasangga 朴多算介 박다산개 An Udige(兀狄哈) (1441)
Bak Dayongga 朴多用介 박다용개 An Odoli(斡朶里) (1491)
Bak Dogani 朴都干儞 박도간이 Mid 15C, a 동녕 東寧衛軍 who lived in 別東村. 朴嵩伊와 朴邦伊's father. (1442)
Bak Durigung 薄豆里弓 박두리궁 A Qing minister
Bak Duronggo 朴豆弄吾 박두롱오 A 女眞 who dedicated some lynx leather to the king and was given more cotton as a reward. (1472)
Bak Ga 朴可 박가 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 上訓春. The father of Joci, Sige, Bugui, Ari, Berida, Age (1402-1410)
