  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Baha amban 巴昻邦 파앙방 Baha amban was a grand minister of the imperial household department(內大臣) of Qing. The letter 巴 is the first letter of his name Baha. 昻邦 is also a part of name of his governemnt position. (1669)
Bahana 所屹乃 소흘내 →Bahana
Bahana 所訖剌 소흘랄 One of his younger brother's name is Garto. He secretly entered 慶源 from a mountain along with 50 persons and committed crimes(1410).
Bahana 所仡羅 소흘라 1. A battalion commander(千戶) of Orangkai who lived in Aran.(1405) 2. →Bahana
Bahana 巴哈納 파합납 A convoy of Qing(淸) who bring the Royal letter on the repair of castle in Joseon. He was made to carry 禮幣 by 仁祖. (1648), And He was a minister of Revenue(戶部尙書) of Qing Dynasty while King 孝宗 was in throne. A nephew of Nurhaci. (1650-1651)
Bai Maraga 裴麻羅可 배마라가 A brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 伐引. He brought his children to have an audience and dedicated local products. the father of Aha (1445-1460)
Baigidongga 裴其同介 배기동개 A Ya-in(野人) (1466)
Baigidu 裵其豆 배기두 A naturalized Ya-in(野人)(1464)
Baiju 拜住 배주 He won the first place in a state examination in Yuan. 太祖 gave him a name '韓復'.
Baindari 裴隱達 배은달 The leader of Hoifa who fighted for the power with Nurhaci(?-1607)
