  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Samandasili 李撒滿答失里 이살만답실리 Early 15C, a 毛憐衛 commissioner-in-chief(毛憐衛都督) who offered local products by sending envoys. He was bestowed goods. He was favorable to Joseon. (1433-1439)
Ni Samparo 李三波老 이삼파로 A commander in-chief(都指揮) in 建州衛. Ni Manju and Ni Samandasili sent him along with 10 persons and they granted gifts including clothes, gats(Korean traditional hat made of bamboo and horsehair and shoes(1434)
Ni Samsi 李三時 이삼시 A Ya-in(1528)
Ni Sangge 李雙巨 이쌍거 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in the same neighborhood as Ni Yerongge. (1528)
Ni Sanggo 李尙古 이상고 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 建州衛. the son of Ni Ergengge and Huanju. The elder brother of Ni Haitu. (1544)
Ni Sano 李舍奴 이사노 a Ya-in(野人) in 建州衛 in the late 15C; Tasi's father (1480)
Ni Sanok 李山玉 이산옥 A nephew of Ni Darongga. He served 世祖 as an envoy when the king tried to admonish Ya-in(野人)s. (1467, 1485, 1496)
Ni Saogu 李沙吾仇 이사오구 A Ya-in(野人) who plunderd Joseon (1528)
Ni Saori 李沙吾里 이사오리 A 司直 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who presented local products to the king
Ni Sarangga 李沙良介 이사량개 A person got position to 僉知. (1603)
