  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Niuengge 李劉於應巨 이류어응거 A Haing vice director(副司正) of Ya-in(野人) who was naturalized. (1453-1454)
Ni Niungge 李留應巨 이류응거 A Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 江陽. The brother of Ni Darongga, Ni Dayangga the son of Jabdongga. The uncle of Dungburi (1455)
Ni Niungge 李劉應巨 이류응거 A person who wanted to be a close retainer and came to Seoul.(1454)
Ni Niusiga 李柳時哈 이류시합 A chieftain(酋長) of 建州衛, to dedicate local products to the King. (1485). He is the son of Ni Manju. He requested a horse, and the Joseon government decided to give him one. (1464-1493)
Ni Nowa 李老臥 이로와 He is one of the 50 people who lived in the same village with Ni Yerongge and joined his stealing. (1528)
Ni Nugonggo 李訥公吾 이눌공오 He is one of the eight Hulun Udige(闊兒看兀狄哈)s who dedicated local products to the king. (1495)
Ni Nuguegen 李訥仇於件 이눌구어건 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in 草串. (1459)
Ni Nusgue 李訥叱仇於 이눌질구어 Mid 15C, a 萬戶 of Kolkan Udige((骨看) who lived in 時知未). He presented local products. (1459-1465)
