  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Ni Odo 李吾道 이오도 A 副司果 of Odoli in late 15C(1485). He moved to 蒲州
Ni Oga 李吾哈 이오합 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who reported how he was lured by Gociga) to plunder villages in Joseon. (1465)
Ni Onci 李溫赤 이온치 A rectifier(司直) of Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 吾弄草. The father of Dorogo (1455)
Ni Onto 李溫土 이온토 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who was appointed as 無乙界 副萬戶. (1456)
Ni Oringga 李吾里應可 이오리응가 A Ya-in(野人) (1528)
Ni Orjiga 李吾乙之介 이오을지개 A Ya-in(野人) who came to the Joseon government. (1483)
Ni Orotemur 李吾魯帖木兒 이오로첩목아 A 同知 of 東寧府 of 元. He surrendered when 太祖 attacked 동녕부, and therefore was treated well.
Ni Osan 李玉山 이옥산 After attacking the north, he was promoted to a rectifier(司直) and received gifts from the king in the middle of the 15C(1460)
Ni Pamha 李波音河 이파음하 Early 15C, a 指揮 of Ya-in(野人) who was bestowed goods by the king. (1434)
Ni Para 李把剌 이파라 Late 15C, 中樞 of 骨看 who had an audience with the king (1439)
