  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gorya Tucinggai 括兒牙禿成改 괄아아독성개 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Kolkan Udige(骨看) who lived in 초곧이[草串]. The father of Gim Orcangga. (1395-1459)
Gosimpa 古心波 고심파 A 千戶 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who dedicated fancy goods and was given cotton cloths in return. (1424)

Gosita 古失塔 고실탑 An Odoli(斡朶里) who was appointed as the 副萬戶 of 東良北. (1456)

Gosungli 高崇禮 고숭례 Late 15C, Odoli(斡朶里) who offered local products. He was naturalized and held a soldier
Gotahaitemur 高塔海帖木兒 고탑해첩목아 A commander(指揮) who lived in 東寧衛. (1408)
Gotojangsa 高土長史 고토장사 A Ya-in(野人)(1439).
Gotojo王 高吐照王 고토조왕 An envoy who brought a letter from an emperor of Mongol. (1442)
