  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Goborcira 高甫乙赤羅 고보을치라 A Ya-in who served as a 里將in 建州左衛 at the end of 15C(1496)

Gocen 高天 고천 Early 15C, a 千戶 of Jurchen
Gociga 苦赤哈 고치합 A son of Baiseng who was 毛憐衛 都指揮. (1465)
Godola 苦石臘 고석랍 A Ya-in who sent 吉塘 who was a commander(指揮) and made him present local products(1441). It seems like a Hulun.
Godorci 高都乙赤 고도을치 A 左衛 Ya-in(野人)and the elder brother of Goborci. He often committed robberies, and declared to get revenge for Joseon's killing of his family and burning down his house. (1484)
Godurito 高豆里吐 고두리토 Early 15C, a 指揮 of Orangkai(兀良哈) who was sent by Ni Manju to present local products and being bestowed goods by the king. (1436)
Godurto 高豆乙土 고두을토 Early 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who was brought by Dong Sorho to have an audience with a newly-appointed 節制使. (1425)
