  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Goroci 古老赤 고로치 Early 15C, Guntu's foster son (1438)
Goron Ehecu[용가] 古論阿哈出 고론아합출 He is an Orangkai(兀良哈) who served king 太祖 of Joseon dynasty. A commander(指揮) of 建州衛. the father of Gim Sigano. The grangfather of Ni Manju. The father of the third empress of Ming emperor(1395-1462)
Goronbori 古論孛里 고론패리 Late 14C, a Ya-in(野人) who served Ni Senggyei(李成桂), a battalion commander of 土門(土門猛安) (1395)
Gorya Barso 括兒牙八兒速 괄아아팔아속 14-15C, a brigade commander(兀良哈萬戶) of an 毛憐衛 Orangkai who served 李成桂. He lived in 土門.
Gorya Koistemur 括兒牙火失帖木兒 괄아아화실첩목아 A Jurchen, who naturalized as Joseon and designated as the 千戶 of 吉州. (1395)
