  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gongsida 公時大 공시대 An Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 吾弄草. The son of Mungarge (1455)
Goni 昆伊 곤이 1. Early 15C, an 兀良哈 千戶 who presented local products and being bestowed goods by the king 2. Mid 15C, 尼麻車兀狄哈 who presented local products and had an audience with the king. He guarded the king, was appointed as 護軍 and being bestowed goods by the king
Goniyega 苦女加 고녀가 A commander(指揮) of a Jurchen(女眞) who lived in 建州左衛. A man of Dong Cang. (1465)
