  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gisoga 其巢哈 기소합 A Jurchen(女眞) who wished to be naturalized. (1496)
Gisongga 其宋哈 기송합 An Orangkai(兀良哈) who bowed to and bid farewell to the King before his return and was given goods. (1422)
Gitara 其他羅 기타라 He is the son of Jang Sai who was a Ya-in. He was living in early 17C(1601).
Giudo 奎都 규도 A director(司正) of Ya-in(1460)
Goabu 高牙夫 고아부 Early 17C, a subordinate of Hong taiji (1627-1630)
Goanui 高安慰 고안위 A Chieftain(酋長) of 東寧府
Gobai 高倍 고배 Early 17C, a Qing envoy
Gobarda 高發大 고발대 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who asked to be a king's guard (1503)
Gobdongga 古邑同哈 고읍동합 A 指揮 of Udige and a son of Gorya Tucinggai. (1426-1440)
Gobo 高甫 고보 Mid 15C, a Hulun Udige(Hulun兀狄哈)
