  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Temu 金加勿 김가물 1. A runawy soldier(1404). 2. He promoted from a rectifier(司直) to a military protector(護軍)(1410), A Hwachek(禾尺) under the command of the navy in Chungchengdo(忠淸道)(1412). 3. He escaped from Liaodong(遼東)(1421) 4. A grand military protector(大護軍) who taught Jangjen(杖戰), Sangjang(上將) (1431),a senior military protector(上護軍)(1433), It's possoble that he is the same person as the persons mentioned 1 and 2. 5.He came from Gilju(吉州) and he was executed(1432)
Gim Todu 金土豆 김토두 A Korga Udige(亏狄哈). He is the son of Kerdege. (1441-1443) Udige(亐知介) a senior military protector. The king helped him reconcile with Odoli(吾都里) a senior military protector(上護軍) Dong Nasongga (1443)
Gim Tosi 金土時 김토시 A brigade commander(萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 阿赤郞耳. The nephew of Gim Doron (1455)
