  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Sanciha 金山赤下 김산치하 Late 15C, 岐州衛 Ya-in(野人) who captured many Koreans and sacked villages in Joseon until Dongcengli persuaded him. After that he returned to allegiance and freed a captured woman. (1496-1497)

Gim Santo 金斜隱土 김사은토 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who was appointed as 無乙界 都萬戶. (1456)
Gim Sar 金沙乙 김사을 Mid 15C, 올량합 중추 who lived in 東良. (1466)
Gim Saro 金舍老 김사로 Mid 15C, Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in Haju(河州) and moved to 蒲州
