  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gim Saroga 金舍老哈 김사로합 Early 16C, a Ya-in(野人) who lived in 厚溫. He informed that Sarbongga sneaked in to revenge for his father's death. (1525)
Gim Saroga 金沙魯哈 김사로합 1. a brigade commander(萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈). 2. a brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) of Ya-in(野人) who lived in Hunchun(訓春) (1455-1459)
Gim Sarongga 金沙弄哈 김사롱합 15C, a Hulun 兀狄哈 都萬戶 who frequently plundered villages in Joseon. Later on, he reported the movements of 兀狄哈 and 兀良哈. (1437, 1465)
Gim Sarongga 金舍弄介 김사롱개 A brigade commander-in-chief(都萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 下訓春. The father of Modo. The elder brother of Yesungge (1459-1468)
Gim Sei 金世 김세 A rectifier(司直) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 無乙界. The son of Nang Sigagu. (1418-1450)
Gim Sejingga 金西澄阿 김서징아 An Odoli(斡朶里), who naturalized as Joseon and acted as an escort, received a bride and was married. (1423-1424)
Gim Sengbu 金成福 김성복 Mid 15C, a naturalized a Ya-in(野人). 金允績's father
Gim Sengga 金生阿 김생아 A vice director(副司正) of Ya-in(野人). The son of Kerdege (1438)
Gim Sengguji 金性仇之 김성구지 Late 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who fled to Joseon
Gim Senju 金先主 김선주 A grand military protector(大護軍) of a Kolkan(骨看) who lived in Yesan. The father of Gandangga, Bergangga, Mogi (1424-1455)
