  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gairijang 開里莊 개리장 He defected to 滿浦鎭 from 建州衛. (1470)
Gajengge 假丁哥 가정가 A Ya-in(野人) who is under the command of Jang Ga (1441)
Gamai 加麻耳 가마이 Late 15C, 兀良哈 副司正 who had an audience with the king (1492)
Gamangga 可莾哈 가망합 Early 16C, a Ya-in(野人) who captured Nammongga. Nammongga is a kin of Sogona who sacked the border area of Joseon. (1512)
Gamasei 加麻世 가마세 Late 15C, a woman from Liaodong(遼東) 東寧衛 who was captured. Gim Sosi(金小廝)'s daughter (1480)
Gambu 監卜 감복 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who was appointed as Namrai(Namra耳) a brigade vice commander(副萬戶)
Gambuli 甘不里 감불리 Mid 15C, a subordinate of 朴美(1442)
Gamda 甘多 감다 in the middle of the 15C, He served as a commander(指揮) in Salar Post(撒剌兒衛)(1439)
