  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Gamuro 加無老 가무로 An Odoli(斡朶里) who lived in 上Borha. The son of Dong Tasu(1455)
Ganaji 干阿之 간아지 A Jurchen(女眞) who lived in Yeori. The son of Gim Moha. The brother of Jinhonggo, Yenda
Gandangga 加隱堂可 가은당가 A vice rectifier(副司直) of Kolkan(骨看) who lived in 餘山. The son of Gim Senju the brother of Bergangga, Mogi (1455)
Gando 間都 간도 A commander(指揮) of Hulun who later was promoted to a senior military protector(上護軍)(1460)
Gandu 加隱豆 가은두 Early 15C, Hulun Udige(Hulun 兀狄哈) who sacked Joseon. An older brother of Gatanggi and Sugo. (1436)
Gangga 家應哈 가응합 Early 16C, a Ya-in(野人) who offered Mangsan to stay in his house. (1502)
Gangga 加應介 가응개 1. An Odoli(斡朶里) who went back to his mother land. 2. a Jurchen(女眞) soldier
Ganggari 加應加里 가응가리 An Orangkai who lived in 甫靑浦(1466). The son of Gonggo. The brother of Sangdongga, Yaha
Ganggatai 姜加太 강가태 He came to Joseon along with Ingguldai and took a ginseng digger hostage to demand food for their way back. (1633).
