  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Esenbuka 也山不花 야산불화 A general of the Yuan Dynasty. He was active in Liaodong from the late Yuan Dynasty to the early Ming Dynasty.
Esentogan 也先土干 야선토간 Prince of Mongol who yield to Ming Dynasty in 1423 and he endowed a name King of Chungyong(忠勇王). (1423-1424)
Esing 於時應 어시응 Early 15C, a 指揮 of Hulun who presented local products by sending a man (1439)

Eyuge 於有巨 어유거 A vice rectifier(副司直) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in outside of 訓戎江. The son of Ni Sato. The brother of Jahua,(Eungge, Yege, Gasangga(1455)
Fanca 班車 반차 1. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 甫伊下. 2. a brigade vice commander(副萬戶) of Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 江外愁州. The elder brother of Nyu Niu Sangdongga. 3. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in 下訓春. 4. An Orangkai(兀良哈) who lived in outside of 訓戎江. 7. →Dong Fanca
Faniangha 反羊哈 반양합 Early 15C, a Chinese man who was captured but escaped. He was bestowed goods by the king and being transported to 遼東. (1427)
