Qing Taizu, Nurhaci(1559~1626), was a significant Jurchen chieftain. He was born of the Aisin Gioro clan, and reigned from 1616 to 1626. Nurhaci reorganized and united various Jurchen tribes, amalgamated the Eight Banners military system, and eventually launched a military campaign against the Ming Dynasty and Joseon Korea. His conquest of northeastern China laid the foundation for the conquest of the rest of China by his descendants and the establishment of the Qing Dynasty in 1644. He is also generally believed to be the creator of a written script for the Manchu language. | 태조(太祖) |
