Li Linfu(李林甫, 683-752), a member of Royal family, was an official of the Tang Dynasty(唐朝). He led the party of aristocrats(貴族派), and defeated the party of officials hired by civil examinations(科擧), such as Zhang Jiuling(張九齢). Removing his opponents continually, as a chancellor he seized the government for 18 years in the reign of the Emperor Xuanzong(玄宗). To prevent his rivals from growing by their military victories on the frontiers, he suggested that the Jiedushi(節度使) of the border should be selected from among foreigners and minority peoples. Indeed, this caused the An Shi Rebellion(安史之亂). Li Maozhen(李茂貞, 856-924) was a military governor(節度使) during the late Tang period. He became King Qi(岐) during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period. In 907, after Zhu Quanzhong(朱全忠) overthew the Tang Dynasty, he proclaimed himself King Qi(岐). In 924, he surrendered to Li Cunyu(李存勖), an emperor of Later Tang(後唐). Li Mi(李密, 582–619) was the leader of a rebellion against the rule of the Sui Dynasty. He initially served under Yang Xuangan(楊玄感) as his strategist. After Yang Xuangan rebelled against the Sui Dynasty and failed in 613, he subsequently rebelled against the Sui Dynasty and later establish a new dynasty. However, in 618, he was defeated by the Sui General Wang Shichong(王世充) and surrendered to Emperor Gaozu(高祖). Later, he rebelled against the Tang and tried to revive his own army.
