He was close to the eunuch Liu Zhongyi(劉忠翼) who wielded power in the reign of Emperor Daizong(代宗). During the Taihe era (太和, 827-835), Zheng Zhu(鄭注) was eager to become chancellor, but as Attending Censor(侍御史) Li Gan strongly opposed his appointment.
