During the late years of the dynasty, Hulü Guang played important roles in maintaining military power against rivals such as the Northern Zhou 北周 and the Chen 陳. Hun Zhen (渾瑊, 736-799), of the Tiele tribe(鐵勒族), was a general of the Tang Dynasty. When Zhu Ci(朱泚), military governor of Lulong Circuit (盧龍節度使), rebelled against the Tang Dynasty in 784, he distinguished himself in battle and protected Emperor Dezong(德宗). (d. 68 BCE). One of the most important statesmen during the mid-Western Han period. As a preceeding emperors' trusted advisor and the most powerful official in the court, he played the decisive role in the enthronement of Emperor Xuan 宣帝.
