After he was appointed commader of Liaodong 遼東 in 1622 from a minor position on the Ministry of War 兵部, he defeated Nurhaci at the Battle of Ningyuan in 1625, which eventually caused Nurhaci's death. He defeated Hongtaiji 皇太極, Nurhaci's 努爾哈赤 successor at Ningyuan 寧遠, Jinzhou 錦州, and Beijing. Yuan Gao(袁高, ?-?) was a poet of the Tang Dynasty(唐代). He was upright and a man of integrity. Emperor Dezong(德宗) commanded him to write the Royal message announcing that Lu Qi(盧杞) would be appointed prefect of Rao Prefecture(饒州刺史).
