Li Deyu(李德裕, 787-850) was an official of the Tang Dynasty. He served Emperor Wenzong(文宗), Emperor Wuzong(武宗) and Emperor Xuanzong(宣宗) as chancellor. He was the son of Li Jifu(李吉甫), chancellor during the reign of Emperor Xianzong(憲宗). He was the leader of the Li Faction(李黨) in the decades long Niu-Li Factional Struggles(牛李黨爭). He was particularly powerful during Emperor Wuzong's reign. After Emperor Wuzong's death, however, Emperor Xuanzong, who had long despised him for his hold on power, had him demoted and exiled.
