  • 01.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a result of a research project of collecting relevant terms and information from the Veritable Records of Joseon Dynasty conducted by the National Institute of Korean History. The research aimed to prepare and utilize the glossary as a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong.
  • 02.Names of the participants in the research project and their affiliation at the time of the project are as follows.
    • -Kim Juwon (Dep. Linguistics, Seoul National University), Yurn Gyudong (Yonsei University Institute of Humanities),
      Kang Eunji (Institute of Latin American Studies, Seoul National University), and Lee Hun (Korea University)
  • 03.The Romanization of personal names is based on the original pronunciation of the name. If it is difficult to determine the original pronunciation only with the Chinese characters of the name, it was estimated as close to the original pronunciation as possible.
  • 04.The Glossary of Mongolian, Jurchen, and Manchu Personal Names is a basic reference for the English translation project of the Veritable Records of King Sejong. It does not mean an official interpretation of the Veritable Records of King Sejong by the National Institute of Korean History. In addition, it is not complete because it only presents the most relevant information gathered from the translation process so far. If more accurate information is collected from the subsequent translation process, the glossary will be revised after internal and external review.

Wang Antan 王安彈 왕안탄 A 領家 under Ni Manju, the 都指揮 of 建州衛. (1434)
Wang Banca 王半車 왕반차 A Jurchen(女眞) who wanted to see the king. He lived in Pajegang. (1433)
Wang Berge 王伐介 왕벌개 A Ya-in(野人) who lived in 婆猪江. (1424)
Wang Bosarno 王菩薩奴 왕보살노 Mid 15C, a Ya-in(野人) who sacked around 毛憐衛 and so on (1452)
Wang Buriga 王夫里介 왕부리개 Late 15C, The Chieftain(酋長) of 岐州衛. (1496-1497)
Wang Cada 王車多 왕거다 in the middle of the 15C, He served as a commander(指揮) in 建州衛(1459)
Wang Cu 王秋 왕추 Late 15C, Ni Darhan's son. A brother of Dajiga·Ni Sardu·Wairang. (1484)
Wang Daou 王答兀 왕답올 A 指揮 under the command of Ni Manju. He came to present local products to the king. (1433)
Wang Deming 王得名 왕득명 A battalion commander(千戶) in Liaodong(遼東) in early 15C(1403)
Wang Dorho 王都乙好 왕도을호 Early 15C, an 兀良哈 who begged some food to Joseon and saved. He had lived in 皇城坪 but during winter he planned to live near 鴨綠江 with his family. He desired to have an audience with the king. (1424)
